Dear Parents,
Thank you to all of you who supported the students by coming to our Winter Program this past Thursday. Please remember that this coming Friday (Dec. 18th) school will be dismissed at 11:45. There will be no aftercare available and lunch will not be served. We will be having a Christmas party and a craft on December 18th. Please read the flyer, that was sent home last Friday, about the party. Please send store-bought goodies, drinks, or healthy snacks that you'd like your student to share. We have 27 students in our classroom. Thank you in advance for your contribution. Please remember that if you are unable to participate in bringing goodies at this time, it is fine. I understand and would encourage you to participate only if you are able. Just a reminder that Winter Break begins on Friday, December 18th. We will all enjoy a 2 week long winter break.
Please be aware that spelling words are sent home with your child each Friday, unless we are on a break the following week or the copier is unavailable. In case the copier is unavailable I will send them home on a Monday.
Just a reminder that your student should never bring toys to school. They are a distraction. Also, I can not be worried about a student losing the toy and I realize that many of the toys are expensive.
It has been a pleasure teaching your student and I look forward to many more exciting learning experiences with them in 2010.
Happy Holidays,
Mrs. Marlatt

December News!
Dear Parents,
Thank you for the food that was sent for our feast and your support. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. It amazes me that we are nearly half way through the school year already, but here we are in the midst of the holidays. Just a reminder that we are having a winter performance on December 10th for 1st-3rd grades. It begins at 6:30 and ends around 7:15. Your child should arrive at the school a half hour early. There is also a winter play on December 17th. It is free! Also, progress reports are going home this Friday and in just two weeks we will be on Winter Break. If there are any parents who have a volunteer card and have been fingerprinted, please let me know. I could use classroom helpers for upcoming crafts on Friday afternoons.
Thank you,
Mrs. Marlatt

Happy Thanksgiving!!
Dear Parents,
Happy Thanksgiving! We are two days away from our feast. We are sooo excited! Remember that the feast replaces the regular lunch. Thank you to all of the parents who have volunteered to bring food, drinks, and paper/plasticware. Many parents have (as yet) not responded with what they are bringing for the feast. Here is a list of things that we still need parents to donate:
1 more vegetable tray & Dip
1 or 2 more pies
1 or 2 fruit trays
I have one last request. If you are a parent who has their fingerprints completed, I could really use some help serving the students on Wednesday. We will be eating around 11:30. Prior to that we will be doing a craft (around 10:45) if time allows, because we have an assembly in the morning as well. The students have early release that day so it gives us about an hour for the feast.
Thank you again,
Mrs. Marlatt

We are thankful!!
Dear Parents,
Today I am sending home the papers the students wrote about the things they are thankful for. They were graded only on their penmanship, but all of them did a wonderful job on the paper. Please take the time to read their list of what they are thankful for. They are touching, enlightening, and humbling. They are also inspiring. Reading them made me realize that we are so blessed, in so many ways, and that we truly have so much to be thankful for. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for blessing me with the gift of teaching your child. I know that each of them are very precious to their parents and I appreciate that you entrust them to me each day. May you all have a wonderful week and enjoy all that life has to offer us.

Parents,
Wednesday we are off in observance of Veteran's Day. If your child is in my math class they have the front and back of their homework to complete. As usual, the students should be studying their spelling words and phonograms every day after school for Friday's test. Have a great day off!

Parents,
Today we had an awards assembly and I'm proud to announce that out of 27 students, 20 received either a "Certificate of Excellence" for straight As or an "Honor Roll" certificate for earning all As and Bs for the first quarter. Please let them know how proud you are of their accomplishment. Equally impressive were the awards for 100% attendance. It is so important for the students to be present in class because so many lessons are taught by team work or hands-on experience and when a student is absent I am unable to send home textbooks for them to catch up on lessons that they miss.
Also, please ask your child for their spelling and phonogram list. They are supposed to be studying them every night. Our pretests are on Thursdays and the final test is on Friday each week. Spelling words go home on Fridays unless we have a long break or copy machines are down. These occasions are rare.
Thank you,

Well, we are back from Fall Break and ready to learn again. Thank you for supporting your child's science project (recycling/conserving) during break. The students who did the project came back excited to share. It was really nice to visit with those of you who attended conference with me and I'm looking forward to working with you to make this year an exciting learning experience for your child.
